Laguna

Laguna is Hagen's pond range — pumps, pressurised filters with built-in UV, fountain fittings, preformed ponds and, importantly for anyone who already owns the gear, a deep catalogue of genuine spare parts. Most of what is here is exactly that: impellers, shafts, quartz sleeves, UV lamps, foams, O-rings and clamps, listed by the model they fit.

Choosing a pump — the two families do different jobs. Fountain and statuary pumps move small volumes and are made for a spray or an ornament. Max-Flo pumps handle solids and are what a waterfall or a pressurised filter needs. When sizing, look at maximum head as well as litres per hour: the flow figure is measured with no lift, and it falls away as the water is pushed higher, so a pump run near its head limit gives a trickle rather than a fall.

Choosing a filter — the Pressure-Flo range is pressurised, which means it can sit buried to the rim beside the pond and still push water up to a waterfall. The model numbers refer to pond volume in litres and assume light stocking; with koi, or a pond in full afternoon sun, go up a size. An undersized filter is the usual reason a pond stays cloudy no matter how often it is cleaned.

Servicing — two things need doing every year and are behind most of the parts on this page: replace the UV lamp (output is largely spent after about 12 months, well before the lamp stops glowing) and clean or replace the quartz sleeve, since a scaled sleeve blocks the UV a new lamp is producing. Rinse filter foam in pond water rather than tap water — chlorine kills the bacteria that make the filter biological.

Fish Filters and Media

Aquarium Pumps & Accessories

Fish Water Care

All Fish & Aquatic Supplies
