Teco

Teco is an Italian refrigeration manufacturer that has been building aquarium chillers since the 1980s. Its TK range covers tanks from 150 to 9,000 litres, all using a titanium coaxial heat exchanger so the same unit suits marine and freshwater systems, and a digital thermostat that holds a setpoint to within half a degree.

Choosing a chiller — size by the total system volume including the sump, not the display tank, and allow headroom if the tank sits in a room without air conditioning or runs high-output lighting. A chiller that is one size too small runs continuously and never quite reaches setpoint, which costs more in power than buying the right unit would have. Teco chillers do not pump water: you need a separate circulation pump that meets the minimum flow rate for the model.

Spare parts — Teco parts are model-specific, so check the model plate on the back of your unit before ordering. When a chiller stops holding temperature the cause is usually mundane: a clogged air filter, a fan that has seized, or a temperature probe that has drifted. All three cost a fraction of a compressor and are worth eliminating first. Compressors, condensers and filter dryers are sealed-system parts and must be fitted by a licensed refrigeration technician.

Teco TK aquarium chillers, TK150 to TK9000

Replacement air filters

Water temperature probes

Replacement thermostats

TECOnnect Wi-Fi module
