Canaries build in an open cup rather than an enclosed dome, which is why this shape works for them where a beehive nest suits finches.

The wire construction is the practical advantage over cane or plastic: it can be washed and disinfected properly between broods and reused for years, where a woven nest is effectively a consumable.

It is a frame, not a finished nest. Canaries expect a felt liner in the pan and nesting material to build on top of it — buy both separately, and put the material out where the hen can gather it herself rather than shaping the nest for her.

Features

Open cup shape — what canaries actually build in

Wire frame — washes and disinfects properly, unlike woven nests

Cage hooks — fixes at any height on the wire

Takes a standard felt liner

Care

Strip, wash and disinfect between broods, and replace the liner each time.
