zoo-med-uvb-index-meter
Zoo Med UVB Index Meter

A digital meter that reads the UV Index, with its sensor response weighted to the vitamin D3 action spectrum — which is to say it measures ultraviolet the way a reptile's skin uses it, rather than raw energy. That weighting is what lets you set a basking-zone UVI to match a species' Ferguson zone and compare one lamp type directly against another. A quick-reference scale is printed on the meter itself.

What it does

Reads UV Index — biologically weighted to vitamin D3 synthesis.

Comparable across lamp types — unlike a µW/cm² radiometer.

Species reference scale printed on the meter.

Set the basking zone properly — measure where the animal sits, not where the lamp is.

Who needs one

This is a serious instrument at a serious price, and it makes sense for breeders, multi-enclosure collections, and anyone keeping a species with narrow UV requirements.
