Forage is an Australian owned and Australian made bird seed range, built around two lines: the Everyday mixes that form the daily base of the diet, and the Gourmet mixes that add dried fruit, nuts and vegetables for foraging. PeekAPaw stocks 10 Everyday products and 11 Gourmet products, in pack sizes from 500g to 5kg.
Everyday or Gourmet?
Forage's own advice is to feed them together: an Everyday mix as the base, a Gourmet mix for variety, and fresh fruit and vegetables alongside both. The Everyday blends are plain seed and grain — canary seed and millets for budgies, finches and small parrots, wheat, barley and sunflower for the larger birds. The Gourmet blends add banana, apple, pineapple, currants, peanuts, almonds, green peas and chilli, which is what turns feeding time into foraging.
Light blends, and two products that are not mixes
The Light versions all do the same thing: they drop the higher-fat seeds and nuts — sunflower, linseed, peanuts, almonds — in favour of millets, safflower and lentils. Choose one if your bird is less active or putting on weight. Two items in the range should not be fed as a mix on their own. Medium Shell Grit is a calcium source, served in a separate dish so the bird controls its own intake. Whole Sunflower seed is high in fat and is meant for training and enrichment, in moderation.
