Our frozen raw dog food range is built around Proudi raw patties, with eight products covering single-protein and combination recipes for adult dogs plus one made for puppies. Patties are a portioned format, so you take out only what the dog eats at that meal and thaw it in the fridge, instead of chipping a serve off a large frozen block every time.
Choosing a protein
The single-protein patties, Beef, Lamb and Chicken, are the sensible starting point if you are still working out what agrees with a dog, because there is less to eliminate when something does not suit. The combinations cover more ground in one pack: Kangaroo and Beef, Turkey and Chicken, Red Combo, and Ocean Combo and Turkey, which is the fish-forward option in the range. Rotating between two or three proteins over time is a common approach with raw feeding and keeps a dog from fixing on a single flavour, but change one protein at a time rather than all at once, so you can tell what caused a reaction if one appears. Kangaroo is often the choice for a dog that has already reacted to the more common meats, simply because fewer dogs have eaten much of it.
Puppies, thawing and safe handling
Proudi Turkey and Beef Raw Patties for Puppies is the one recipe here made for puppies, and a growing dog's calcium, phosphorus and energy needs differ enough from an adult's that it is worth using a puppy recipe rather than scaling an adult one up or down. Whatever the recipe, handle raw pet food the way you would handle raw meat for the kitchen: thaw in the fridge rather than on the bench, keep it covered and separate from human food, wash the bowl, board and your hands afterwards, and do not refreeze a patty once it has thawed. Serve what the dog will finish in a sitting and take up anything left. If you are moving a dog onto raw for the first time, introduce it over several days alongside the current food rather than switching in a single meal, and speak to your vet first if the dog is very young, elderly or already on a prescribed diet.
