The Best Friends by Sheri Original Calming Donut is the bed most people picture when they hear "donut bed" — a round, deep-walled cuddler in vegan shag fur, filled with the brand's AirLoft fibre. The raised rim supports a dog's head and neck while the dished centre lets them burrow in, which is what settles anxious sleepers and dogs that never quite switch off. The plush pile also traps body heat, so it suits a dog that hunts for warm spots — less so a heavy-coated breed in a hot climate.

• Small — 58cm (23") for pets up to roughly 11kg
• Medium — 76cm (30") for pets up to roughly 20kg
• Large — 91cm (36") for dogs up to roughly 45kg
• X-Large — 114cm (45") for dogs up to roughly 68kg

Sizing tip. The measurement is the outside diameter across the rim, not the sleeping area, so the usable space is noticeably smaller than the number suggests. A dog that curls nose-to-tail will be happy with the recommended size; one that sprawls out flat should go up a size.
