Sand colic in horses is a familiar worry for anyone grazing bare or sandy paddocks, or feeding off the ground, and keeping on top of the sand a horse picks up is a routine part of that management. in-Sandout from EAC Animal Care is a palatable pellet built on psyllium husk and magnesium sulphate that is added to the horse's usual feed as a short course rather than fed all year, for no longer than seven days in any month. PeekAPaw stocks it in 1.5kg, 3kg and 6kg, so you can buy enough for one course for one horse or keep a larger bag for a yard of them. The amount fed is worked out per kilogram of bodyweight and depends on how much sand the horse is carrying. It contains no sugar and no molasses, and the manufacturer suggests feeding it alongside in-Sideout.

Feeding guide
The feeding rate depends on the sand load in the horse. The published rates are 0.6g per kg of bodyweight for 5 to 7 days, and 1.2g per kg of bodyweight for 5 to 7 days where the sand load is higher. Add it to the usual feed. Feed for no longer than 7 days per month. One 250ml cup holds approximately 200g of in-Sandout.

Important
- Ensure clean potable water is available at all times.
- Ensure the horse's bowel movements are regular before feeding.
- Take caution if feeding other supplements containing magnesium. You may need to cease them while feeding in-Sandout, otherwise magnesium toxicity may occur.
- DO NOT feed if impaction or intestinal blockage is present.
