This is a background panel for the rear wall of the terrarium, not a substrate — it goes behind the animal, not underneath it. A textured rock face gives an enclosure depth when you look at it from the front, and it screens the cables, cords and fittings that run down the back glass. It is a cosmetic and screening item: it does not heat, does not hold humidity and does not feed anything. A background cut to the wrong size looks worse than no background at all, so measurement matters more here than it does for most decor.
Two sizes, 45 x 45cm and 45 x 60cm, which match the rear panel of 45cm-wide terrariums in the 45cm and 60cm heights. Measure the inside of the back glass — the width between the side panels and the height from the base to the underside of the top frame — not the outside dimensions on the box. Exo Terra has retired this background from its current catalogue, so there is no live specification sheet stating whether it is meant to be trimmed down; we would order the size that matches rather than plan on cutting. It reads well with the Rock Outcrops and in our Natural Terrariums, and the rest of the range is in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Rear-panel format — mounts against the back glass, so it costs you no floor area in an enclosure where floor area is the scarce thing.
- Two terrarium-matched sizes — 45 x 45cm and 45 x 60cm, matched to the back panel of 45cm-wide terrariums.
- Screens the back of the enclosure — cords, probes and equipment mounted on the rear glass sit out of sight behind it.
Specifications
Panel sizes 45 x 45cm (PT2955) and 45 x 60cm (PT2956). Shipping weights 0.43kg and 0.545kg. Exo Terra no longer lists this background, so material, panel thickness and fixing method are not published anywhere we can verify — we have left them out rather than guess.
