Coffee wood, also sold as java wood, is a dense close-grained hardwood salvaged from grubbed-out coffee plants, and it behaves nothing like a stick from the garden. Worked over by a dog it wears into soft fibres rather than cracking into splinters, which is the argument for the Mighty Chomp range. The caveat: no hard chew is risk-free, a powerful jaw can still chip a tooth on one, so match the bar to the dog and retire it once it is small enough to swallow.
Three sizes are listed — Small, Medium and Large — and only the Small carries a published measurement, roughly 20cm by 3-4cm thick. If your dog falls between sizes, take the larger one. For the same timber in a plainer shape, see the Mighty Chomp Java Wood chew.
Features
- Coffee wood — dense hardwood recovered from retired coffee plants.
- Wears, not splinters — the surface frays into soft fibre as it is gnawed.
- Nobbly profile — the ridged shape gives teeth and paws something to hold.
- Three sizes — Small, Medium and Large, so it can be sized to the jaw.
Care
Supervise chewing, rinse and air-dry between sessions, and replace the bar when it is small enough to be swallowed whole.
