Concentrated canthaxanthin powder, minimum 10%, for species that need dietary carotenoid to hold their feather colour — red factor canaries, red siskins, flamingoes and others. This is the concentrate rather than the ready-mixed seed, so it goes further and costs less per bird, at the price of having to make up a stock solution.
As with the seed, colour only develops in birds that carry the genetics, and only in feathers grown while the bird is on it.
Making the stock solution
Mix 25g of powder with 1 litre of boiling water. Keep the stock solution in the refrigerator.
Directions
- Drinking water — dilute 50ml of stock solution with 950ml of boiling water, fresh daily. Supply before and during the moult
- Soft food — 5ml (1 teaspoon) of stock solution per 100g of soft food such as Passwell Egg & Biscuit or Finch Soft Food. Feed year-round and prepare fresh daily
