Boosti-Cal is ProviCo's oral calcium gel from the ProfeHERD herd-supplement line — given by dosing gun to cows around calving, when calcium demand jumps sharply as lactation starts.
Available in a 500ml single-use pack and a 5L container for use with a dosing gun through a calving run. The 500ml is what you keep in the shed for the odd cow; the 5L is for a herd going through a calving period.
An oral gel is not a substitute for treatment. Oral calcium is used preventively and as support for cows at risk. A cow that is already down with clinical milk fever needs veterinary treatment — usually intravenous calcium — and giving an oral gel instead of calling the vet costs the cow time. Talk to your vet about where oral calcium fits in your calving protocol.
Dosing rate, timing and any withholding period are printed on the pack. Follow them.
