ProviCo is an Australian dairy nutrition company that makes milk replacers and farm supplements from its own milk powder base. Three sub-brands sit under it: ProfeLAC (milk replacers for calves, lambs, kids and wildlife), ProfeSTART (colostrum supplement and electrolytes for young stock) and ProfeHERD (herd-level supplements such as Boosti-Cal oral calcium gel). ProviCo Enhance is a whole milk extender for herds feeding whole milk.
Choosing a calf replacer. The ProfeLAC calf range is tiered — Beef, Silver, Gold and Supreme — and the tiers differ in formulation and cost per bag, not just in name. Match the tier to how the calves are being reared and how long they will be on milk; a beef calf on its mother with a top-up has different needs to a dairy replacement heifer reared entirely artificially. ProfeLAC Shepherd is the lamb, kid and cria formula, and ProfeLAC Nurture is the low-lactose formula used where lactose is poorly tolerated, including hand-rearing wildlife.
Colostrum is not a replacement for the real thing. ProfeSTART Colostrum Supplement is a supplement — the name is deliberate. A newborn still needs a proper feed of maternal colostrum in the first hours of life; a supplement tops up, it does not substitute.
Most of this range is sold in 20kg bags and 5–20L drums, so it is set up for a herd or a rearing shed rather than one orphan. Mixing rates and storage instructions are on the pack and matter — milk replacer mixed at the wrong concentration or the wrong temperature causes scours.
