Wombaroo Small Carnivore Food is a live-food substitute for animals that would otherwise be eating insects or meat — sugar gliders, dunnarts, antechinus, kowari, quolls, bandicoots, hopping mice, ferrets and insectivorous bats. It mixes three parts powder to two parts water into a moist crumb, never a paste, and the inclusion rate varies sharply by species: up to 80% of the diet for dunnarts and quolls, but only 10–20% for gliders, rodents and ferrets. The species table below is the part to read before you portion anything. Added taurine is what makes it work for carnivores, and protein is set at 38% for fur and muscle condition. Preparing
Mix 3 parts powder (15g) to 2 parts water (10mL).
Slowly add the water while mixing, to form a moist crumbly food. Do not make it into a paste. Store prepared food refrigerated for 1 day or frozen for 1 week.
Feeding by Species
Dunnarts, antechinus, kowari & quolls: can represent up to 80% of the total diet. Supplement with crickets, moths, grasshoppers, spiders and day-old mice or chicks.
Gliders, pygmy possums & bandicoots: can represent up to 20% of the total diet. Also feed Wombaroo High Protein Supplement dispersed over fruit.
Hopping mice, rats & mice: can represent 10–20% of the total diet.
Ferrets: can represent 10–20% of the total diet. The powder can be used to top-dress wet food — mix it in well.
Echidna & numbat: mix prepared Small Carnivore Food with about 10% crushed termite mound and termites.
Insectivorous bats: have been successfully kept using this food as a maintenance diet, supplemented with moths, beetles and a few fly pupae or mealworms.
