Advantage is a monthly spot-on flea treatment applied to the skin at the back of the neck. The range is split into six products, each colour-coded to a weight band, and the band is the whole point: the pipette volume is matched to the animal's weight, so picking by colour rather than by species or breed is what gets the dose right.
The six weight bands
- Cats 0-4kg - orange
- Cats over 4kg - purple
- Dogs 0-4kg - green
- Dogs 4-10kg - aqua
- Dogs 10-25kg - red
- Dogs 25kg and over - blue
Each is sold in 1, 4 and 6 pipette packs. A 4 or 6 pack covers most of a flea season and works out cheaper per dose than buying singles, but check the expiry on the carton if you are buying ahead.
Before you buy
Weigh the animal rather than estimating, and if it sits close to the edge of a band, use the pack the weight actually falls in - splitting a pipette between two animals or across two bands is not how the product is meant to be used. Cat and dog products are not interchangeable. Read the pack instructions, and if your pet is very young, pregnant, unwell or already on another parasite product, talk to your vet before you start.
