Anitone is an Australian liquid mineral and trace element tonic, developed by a Western Australian veterinarian in 2002. It is a single formulation sold in six sizes — 250ml, 500ml, 1L, 5L, 10L and 20L — and it is fed across horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, dogs and cats rather than being species specific.
Which size to buy. A horse over 300kg is fed 60ml a day, so a 1L bottle lasts about sixteen days for one horse. If you are feeding more than one animal, or feeding continuously rather than through a stress period, the 5L and larger drums work out considerably better per millilitre.
When it is not the right product. Anitone is a broad-spectrum top-up aimed at stock grazing depleted or unimproved country. If your horse is already on a full vitamin and mineral premix in a fortified hard feed, you are likely doubling up rather than filling a gap. It also has a nil withholding period, which is why it is used as a pre-competition dose.
