BlackDog Dog Treats
BlackDog is an Australian pet treat brand, and the range splits into two quite different things. On one side are the natural dried chews — pig ears and pig ear strips, cow ears, pork twists, shank bones, flake fillets, the kangaroo line and filled cow horns. On the other are the oven-baked biscuits made at BlackDog's own Australian bakery: Bigga, Charcoal, Cheese, Mini Beef, Glucosabics and the rest. PeekAPaw stocks both, along with a small amount of BlackDog dry dog food.
Which one you want depends on the job. The dried chews are high in protein and low in fat, but they are not calorie-free — count them into the daily ration rather than adding them on top, particularly for a dog watching its weight. The hard chews are a different category again: a filled cow horn or a shank bone is not meant to be finished in one sitting, needs supervising, and should be taken away once the piece is small enough to swallow. Match the size to your dog's jaw and chewing style rather than buying the largest option.
The baked biscuits are mostly sold in 5kg boxes. That is strong value per kilo and sensible for training or a multi-dog household, but it is a lot of biscuit for one small dog — check the pack size on the variant before you order.
BlackDog labels its kangaroo range "Roo" — Roo Jerky, Roo Sticks, Roo Tails, Roo Clods and so on. It is the same lean novel protein sold elsewhere as kangaroo, and worth knowing if you are searching for it by that name.
Origin varies by product rather than across the brand. The kangaroo, beef and lamb lines and the bakery biscuits are Australian; several of the pig and imported chew lines are packed elsewhere. The pack on each product page states its own country of origin.
