Our dog dairy food range is goat milk powders and purpose-formulated milk replacers — not cow's milk in a pet-shaped bottle. Goat milk is the base for most of it because it is lower in lactose than cow's milk, and the low-lactose formulations here are written for dogs rather than adapted from a human product. Before you choose, work out which job you are buying for: rearing a puppy that cannot nurse, or adding a milk drink to the diet of a dog that is already eating complete food.

Milk replacers versus supplementary drinks

A replacer is intended as the sole diet of an orphaned or hand-reared puppy and is balanced for growth. Wombaroo Dog Milk Replacer, PetsBuddy Goatsmilk Formulated Puppy Replacement and Di-Vetelact Nutritional Milk for Animals are the products written for that, and each has its own mixing ratio and feeding schedule printed on the pack — follow it exactly rather than approximating. Hand-rearing a litter is a serious undertaking with real risks around temperature, feeding rate and weight gain, so involve your vet or an experienced breeder from the start. Everything else in this collection is supplementary: something to pour over kibble, to soften a meal, or to give as a drink.

Making up goat milk powders

Powders are made up with warm water as you need them and store well between uses: Natural Animal Solutions Goat Milk Powder, Vetnex Goatmilk Powder for Dogs & Cats, and PetsBuddy Goatsmilk Premium Low Lactose Formula for Dog. Sprinkled dry over a bowl they also work as a simple food topper. With any of them, introduce a small serve first: dogs differ in how well they tolerate milk, and loose stools are the usual sign of too much too soon. Keep made-up milk refrigerated and throw out what is not used within a day.
