Friskies is Purina's value everyday dry cat food. Most recipes put several kibble shapes and flavours in the same bag, which is why cats stay interested in it over months rather than tiring of a single taste. For a healthy adult cat with no particular issues, it does the job at the lowest cost per kilo of any cat food we stock.
What to know before buying
- Two bag sizes — 2.5kg suits one cat; 10kg is for multi-cat households and rural feeding.
- Five recipes — Meaty Grills, Seafood Sensations, Seven Flavours, Surfin' & Turfin' Favourites, and Indoor Delights.
- Indoor Delights is the lower-calorie recipe, aimed at cats that do not go outside.
The multi-flavour design has one drawback worth naming: it makes Friskies a poor base for an elimination diet if you are trying to identify a food sensitivity, because you cannot isolate a single protein. A cat with ongoing gut or skin trouble is better on a single-protein food and a vet's plan.
Ten-kilo bags should be decanted into a sealed container once opened and finished within a couple of months. Keep the original bag for the batch code and best-before date. For targeted formulations see Purina ONE; for the wet side of Purina, Fancy Feast.
