Laila and Me is an Australian-owned small business founded in 2015, making single-ingredient treats in small batches in Melbourne. Nothing in the range carries GMOs, carrageenan, fillers, added salt or sugar, artificial flavours and colours or preservatives, and the treats are approved by animal nutritionist Clare Kearney.
There are two ranges, and the difference matters more than the flavour does. The dehydrated, air-dried treats are the firmer chews: shark cartilage, duck feet, whole pilchards, and jerky in crocodile, chicken and kangaroo. They last longer in the mouth, and the coarser ones help clean teeth as the dog chews. The freeze-dried raw range is light and brittle: chicken breast, chicken heart, kangaroo, turkey, salmon belly and wild boar, which snap easily into small pieces for reward-based training.
Choose by the dog rather than the protein. Crocodile and wild boar are the novel proteins, for dogs that have reacted to something more common. Kangaroo and chicken breast are the lean, low-fat options. Shark cartilage, duck feet and New Zealand green lipped mussels are the natural glucosamine and chondroitin sources. The pilchards, lamb lung puff chips and chicken hearts suit cats as well as dogs. The range also includes a cold-pressed hemp seed oil supplement, which contains no THC. If your pet is being treated for a specific condition, check the choice with your vet first.
