My Dog is Mars Petcare's gourmet wet range, and unlike most wet food it is organised by recipe rather than by life stage — Gourmet Beef, Prime Beef & Veal, Country Lamb & Liver, Tender Chicken & Turkey Banquet and Lamb Classic all sit alongside each other, with Puppy and Senior recipes at either end.

Format is the real decision here. The 100g trays are single-serve and suit a small dog or a topper; the 400g and 680g cans are the everyday size for a medium or large dog. Chef Selects comes as a six-tray sleeve of 100g portions, which is the easiest way to try a recipe before committing to a carton.

Trays and cans are sold by the carton, which is how the price per meal actually works out in this category.
