Oxbow Rabbit Food

Oxbow's rabbit pellets come in three lines, Essentials, Garden Select and Organic Bounty, and all of them are built on grass hay rather than grain. Pellets are the smaller half of the job: an adult rabbit should have unlimited grass hay available all day, with a measured portion of pellets alongside it.

Which line

Essentials Adult Rabbit leads with Timothy hay and is the standard choice. Garden Select Adult Rabbit uses Timothy, oat and orchard hay as its first three ingredients, is non-GMO and contains no soy. Organic Bounty Adult Rabbit leads with certified organic grass hay. Nutritionally the three land in much the same place, so choose on sourcing.

Life stage

Essentials Young Rabbit is alfalfa-based, which gives growing rabbits the extra protein and calcium they need. Move a rabbit onto an Adult formula once it is grown, because a high-calcium alfalfa diet is associated with urinary problems in adult rabbits. Essentials Senior Rabbit adds ginger root, turmeric and chamomile for older rabbits. If you are unsure which life stage your rabbit is on, ask your vet.
