Perrys is a straightforward Australian horse feed range — meals, mixes and chaffs in large bags, aimed at people feeding several horses rather than one show pony. The line splits three ways: meals and mixes (Horse Meal, Pony Meal, Fifty Fifty, Fat N Up, Founder Fighter), chaffs (Lucerne, Oaten & Cereal, Wheaten) and the drier Fifty Fifty Dry.
How to choose — chaff is roughage and bulk, not a concentrate: it slows a horse down at the feed bin and adds fibre, but it will not put condition on a horse by itself. Lucerne chaff is the highest in protein and calcium of the three and suits growing and working horses; oaten and wheaten chaff are lower in energy and better for good doers and ponies that gain weight easily. Fat N Up is the one to reach for when a horse needs condition; Founder Fighter is formulated for horses that need watching on sugars and starch — talk to your vet before using it on a horse with a diagnosed metabolic problem.
Bags run from 14kg to 25kg, so freight is a real part of the cost. Buying two or three bags at once is usually better value than one at a time.
