Pet-Rite is an Australian owned and operated family business that manufactures oven-baked dog biscuits in Victoria and distributes a wider range of chews, pet nursers and cat toys nationally. Its products are made in GMP certified facilities, and the bickies are made from human-grade ingredients.
The range splits into five lines: Bickies (bone-shaped oven-baked biscuits in 5kg and 10kg bulk boxes), Bickie Bites (the same biscuit in resealable 450g tubs), Breakfast Bickies (a large 4 x 2 inch shortbread biscuit and the smaller 2 x 1 inch Snaxize version), Sweet Potato Tasty Bones and Rawhide Chews, plus nursers, a dental kit and cat toys.
Choosing between the ranges — the biscuits are everyday rewards; buy the 450g tub to test a flavour and the 5kg box once you know it works, because the tub is far more expensive per kilogram. For chewing rather than rewarding, the choice is between the Sweet Potato Tasty Bones (94% sweet potato flour, low fat, and the right answer for a dog that does not tolerate hide well) and the rawhide lines. Within rawhide, pressed bones are the hardest and last longest, knot bones sit in the middle, and pork twists and twist sticks are the softest and shortest-lived.
Sizing chews — always pick a chew your dog cannot fit fully into its mouth, and take it away once it is worn down small enough to swallow. Rawhide does not suit dogs that gulp rather than chew, or any dog with a history of gut obstruction.
Most of the Pet-Rite range is sold in bulk packs, which makes it well suited to multi-dog households, breeders, groomers and training clubs.
