Pioneer Pet makes circulating water fountains for cats and dogs, along with the replacement filters, pumps and cleaning tools that keep them running. Capacities in this range run from the 1.18 litre stainless steel fountain and food bowl station up to the 3.7 litre Big Max and Vortex, so there is a size that suits one cat and a size that suits a multi-pet household.
Choose the bowl material first, because it is the part you live with. Ceramic is heavy, stays put on the floor and helps prevent feline acne. 18/8 stainless steel is lighter, helps protect against bacterial contamination and keeps the water feeling cool. BPA-free plastic is the lightest and the easiest to lift in and out of the dishwasher. All three bowls are dishwasher safe. The pump is not: take it apart and clean it by hand about once a month.
Filters are the part people get wrong. The plastic fountains, the ceramic and stainless steel fountains, the Vortex and the Swan do not all take the same cartridge, so check the filter number on your fountain's own product page before ordering refills. One more thing worth knowing before you buy a spare part: the Swan and Magnolia replacement pump is supplied with a US plug, while the Swan and RainDrop Plastic fountains themselves ship with an Australian plug.
