Planet Dog builds almost everything from Orbee-Tuff, a pliable TPE that gives under a dog's teeth instead of cracking. PeekAPaw stocks the treat-dispensing balls, the puzzle toys and the plain fetch balls.
Choose by what the toy is meant to do. The sports balls — baseball, basketball, football, soccer and tennis — and the signature Planet Ball are hollow, so they take treats and dispense them slowly as the dog works at them. The fruit and vegetable shapes, carrot and strawberry, and the Nooks toy do the same job with pockets rather than a hollow centre, which suits pastes better than dry kibble.
The puzzle toys are a different proposition. Snoop is a soft, collapsible ball with a deep crevice: push a treat inside and the dog has to squash it back out. Lil Snoop is the smaller version of the same toy, so pick on the dog's mouth size rather than assuming the larger one is better. Guru has five openings that hold different fillings at once, and Mazee pairs a plastic inner maze with the Orbee-Tuff shell, which its own instructions say to use under supervision.
Squeak Ball and the Flashing Strobe Ball are for fetch rather than food — the Strobe Ball lights up when it bounces, which keeps a game going after dark.
