Royal Canin Light Weight Care is the brand's everyday weight management food for cats and dogs that gain condition easily. It is a daily retail formula, not a veterinary weight-loss diet, and PeekAPaw does not stock any Royal Canin Veterinary Diet product. If your pet is already carrying a lot of excess weight, or has a condition such as arthritis or diabetes in the mix, a vet-supervised plan will get you further than a food change on its own.

What the formula actually does is unglamorous and effective. Fat content is reduced, which lowers the energy density of each cup, and fibre is raised so the same bowl fills more of the stomach. The point of the fibre is the feeling of fullness: an animal that finishes a meal still hungry will beg, counter-surf and bolt the next one. Protein stays high and L-carnitine is included, both aimed at holding on to lean muscle while fat comes off, since weight lost as muscle is the sort that comes straight back. The Mini dog formula also carries omega-3 EPA and DHA for joint support, which matters for a heavy small dog.

Portion control still does most of the work. Weigh the daily ration rather than scooping it, and count whatever else goes in as snacks. On the cat side, PeekAPaw stocks Light Weight Care dry in 400g, 1.5kg and 3kg, plus gravy and jelly pouches in 85g, 12 and 48 packs. For dogs the dry food goes by adult size rather than current weight: Mini Light Weight Care in 3kg for dogs up to 10kg, Medium in 3kg and 12kg, and Maxi in 12kg, with a Light Weight Care Loaf wet food in 85g pouches.
