Chew toys, tunnels, dens, treat holders and climbing gear — small animal toys and hideouts for rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice and other small pets. The large majority of it comes from Rosewood's Small Animal Activity Toys range, with Ferplast Goodbite chews and a Nature Island play wall alongside them.

Chewing is a need, not a habit

Rabbit, guinea pig and rodent teeth grow continuously, so gnawing is how the animal keeps them in shape. That is why most of this collection is made from materials meant to be destroyed: untreated wood, loofah, seagrass, water hyacinth, banana leaf, rattan and corrugated card. The edible and shreddable toys — the Edible Play Log and Play Shack, the Shred-A-Log corrugated tunnel, the Woodies nibble stix and the various carrots, corn cobs and fruit shapes — are consumables. Expect to replace them, and treat that as a sign they are doing their job. Ferplast's Goodbite Tiny & Natural range is made to be eaten outright and comes in carrot, apple, cheese and corncob shapes.

Hides, tunnels and things to climb

A prey animal with nowhere to retreat to will not settle, so plan on at least one hideout per animal and a second exit if two share an enclosure. Woven dens and tunnels such as the Stack 'N' Hide Den, the Woven Jumbo Play Tunnel, the Woven Play 'N' Hide Boot and the seagrass and hyacinth tunnels do that job and double as chew material. Treat-dispensing toys — the Maze-A-Log Treat Challenge, the Hide 'N' Treat Chain, the Carrot Toy 'N' Treat Holder and the Loofa Toss 'N' Treat Roller — slow feeding down and give a caged animal a reason to move. For height, the Activity Climbing Tower, Suspension Bridge, Assault Course, Rainbow Play Bridge and Play 'N' Climb Kit build a route around the enclosure; rats and mice in particular use vertical space far more than floor space.
