The marine counterpart to API's freshwater case, covering the four parameters that matter most in a fish-only saltwater tank — pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. If you keep corals, this is not the kit to buy: reef tanks also need calcium, carbonate hardness and phosphate, which is what the Reef Master Test Kit adds.
What is in the case
- 6 test solutions covering 4 parameters
- 4 test tubes with snap-tight caps and a holding tub
- Colour chart and step-by-step booklet
- More than 550 tests in total
When to test
Every second day through the cycling period, then weekly. Marine pH normally sits well above freshwater levels, so read it against the saltwater side of the chart rather than the freshwater one.
Looking after the kit
Rinse each tube with tap water straight after use — dried reagent stains the tube and throws out the next reading. Never wash tubes with detergent; the residue is harmful if it goes back into the tank. Shake the reagent bottles firmly, but invert the capped tube gently.
Also useful: calcium test kit and copper test kit for tanks under treatment.
