Avomec Plus is a dual-active backline pour-on: abamectin 5 mg/mL for worms, lice and fly, plus triclabendazole 300 mg/mL for liver fluke. Triclabendazole is the only active that reaches early immature, immature and adult fluke, which is why this combination exists — on fluke country it covers the whole burden in one pass up the race.

That same breadth is the reason to use it deliberately rather than routinely. Triclabendazole resistance is a real and growing problem in Australia, and a combination product used as a default worm drench burns the one active that covers immature fluke. Use it where fluke is actually the problem and use something else where it is not.

Supplied in 1L, 2.5L, 5L and 15L. Dose rate is 1 mL per 10 kg bodyweight, applied as a strip along the backline starting between the shoulder blades.

Key points

  • Abamectin 5 mg/mL + triclabendazole 300 mg/mL
  • All three fluke stages — early immature, immature and adult
  • Schedule 6
  • Not for calves under 50 kg — contraindicated

Controls

Gastrointestinal roundworms including barber's pole worm, small brown stomach worm and hookworm; lungworm (Dictyocaulus viviparus); liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) at early immature, immature and adult stages; sucking and biting lice. Aids in the control of cattle tick and buffalo fly; not recommended for use in strategic tick dipping programs.

Safety

Macrocyclic lactone actives (ivermectin, abamectin, moxidectin, eprinomectin) are toxic to dogs, and severely so in herding breeds such as Collies, Border Collies, Australian Shepherds and Kelpies. Keep dogs away from treated animals until the product has dried, store the container out of reach, and dispose of empty packs and used syringes where a dog cannot get at them. Withholding periods and export slaughter intervals apply — read the label before treating any animal destined for sale, and rotate chemical groups between seasons rather than relying on one active, because resistance is the main reason a treatment stops working.
