Whole grasshoppers cooked inside the can — not live insects and not freeze-dried, which is the point people most often get wrong. Cooking in the sealed tin softens the exoskeleton, so they digest more easily than a dried insect, and the can keeps on the shelf until you open it. They are a treat or part of a varied diet rather than a complete food, and at close to 75% moisture they are not a substitute for a balanced staple. Once the can is open the clock starts: refrigerate it and discard leftovers after 24 hours.

Two grades, both in 34g cans: standard (Exo Terra item PT1950) and XL (item PT1952). The XL can holds larger insects for bigger animals, while the standard grade suits small to medium insectivores — Exo Terra does not publish an insect length for either grade, so if your animal is borderline, start with the standard. Exo Terra lists the standard grade simply as Grasshoppers. Other canned treats sit in our Reptile Food collection, including Unshelled Snails and Shrimp; the full range is in our Exo Terra collection.

Ingredients

Grasshoppers (Phymateus saxosus) — a single-ingredient food, cooked in the can to hold nutritional value, flavour and aroma.

Guaranteed Analysis

Protein 20.3%, fat content 1.6%, moisture 74.7%. Exo Terra publishes the same analytical constituents for both the standard and XL grades.

Feeding Guide

Feed a few grasshoppers as part of the diet, or as a treat two to three times a week. Discard any uneaten portion after 24 hours and refrigerate the can once opened. Feeding tweezers make it easier to offer one insect at a time and keep the substrate clean.
