The Fluval C Power Filter is a hang-on-back filter that runs five filtration stages — two mechanical, one chemical and two biological — in a clip-on body, so it takes no cabinet space and is far simpler to service than a canister. It suits freshwater and marine community tanks from around 115 L up to 265 L depending on the model. The catch is where it sits: the unit hangs off the back glass and needs clearance behind the tank plus a hood cut-out, and the published flow is measured with clean media, so expect noticeably less once the pads have loaded up.
Australian mains is 230–240 V / 50 Hz, so the flow figures that apply here are 400 L/h (C2), 480 L/h (C3) and 900 L/h (C4). The pads and carbon are consumables, so keep spare C Series poly/foam pads on hand.
Features
- 5-stage filtration — Two mechanical stages trap large and fine debris, one chemical stage of activated carbon removes toxins and odours, and two biological stages use the Bio-Screen pad and BIOMAX nodes.
- Wet/dry trickle chamber — Fluval states this chamber enhances oxygenation and beneficial bacteria growth.
- Re-filtration system — When flow rate is reduced, up to 50% of the water in the filter chamber is processed several times to remove more impurities.
- Cleaning indicator — Shows when the mechanical media needs attention rather than leaving you to guess.
- Quick-access media basket — Media can be swapped without pulling the whole filter off the tank.
- Low draw — All three models are rated at 5 W.
