The magnetic impeller assembly is the spinning heart of an FX filter and the usual cause of rattling, grinding or a sudden drop in flow. Replacing it is a far cheaper repair than a new motor unit, so try this first. Check the shaft as well while you are in there — a chipped shaft will destroy a new impeller quickly.
