Cod liver oil has been fed in stables for a century as a coat conditioner and a source of vitamins A and D. It suits horses with no access to green pasture and animals wintering under rugs and out of sunlight.
Available in 1L, 5L and 20L.
Vitamins A and D are fat-soluble and accumulate, so cod liver oil is one of the few supplements where more is genuinely worse. Do not stack it on top of a fortified feed or a broad-spectrum supplement that already supplies them without checking the combined intake. It also oxidises once opened - buy the pack size you will use in a season, not the cheapest per litre.
Storage
Keep sealed, out of sunlight and somewhere cool. Rancid oil smells sharp rather than fishy and should be discarded. The 20L drum is a bulk pack for multi-horse properties, not a better buy for a single horse.
