The Glomat is the electronic control gear for a twin-tube Glo fitting, housed in a separate box that sits outside the hood rather than inside it. Keeping the ballast away from the tank is the point: it runs cooler, it is easier to replace than gear moulded into a hood, and there is no mains transformer sitting in the humid air above the water.
Models
- Twin T5 HO — 61cm. For two 24in T5 high-output tubes.
- Twin T8 40W — 120cm. For two 40W T8 tubes.
The two are not interchangeable — T5 and T8 tubes need different gear, and the wattage is fixed. Check what is printed on the tube you are replacing, not the length of the hood.
Installation should be done by a licensed electrician where the unit is being hard-wired into an existing fitting.
