Pestene is a dusting powder that has been on Australian shelves for decades, used on poultry and dogs and through their bedding and housing. It is applied dry, worked down to the skin or through the litter rather than sprinkled on top.
Before you use it
Follow the directions on the pack for each species. Powders drift — dust in a well ventilated spot, keep it out of eyes and away from your own airways, and do not use it on animals the label excludes. If you take eggs from birds you are treating, check the pack for a withholding period.
Treating the bird without treating the coop rarely works: most of the population lives in the housing, not on the animal.
