A digital thermometer with the display outside the tank and only the sensor in the water, on a 100 cm lead. That split is the whole point: you get a large LCD you can read from across the room instead of squinting at a strip stuck to the glass, and nothing bulky inside the display area.
The display unit is not waterproof. Juwel is clear that it is for use outside the water only — mount it on the cabinet or the outside of a pane, not on the inside, and keep it clear of splash from the outlet. There is also no alarm function: it reads the temperature, it does not warn you when the temperature moves.
