The Ministat 600 is Microclimate's compact on/off thermostat, rated to 600W. It is the simplest thing in the range and, for a lot of enclosures, all that is actually needed: set a temperature, plug the heater in, and the stat cuts power when the probe reaches it.
On/off control means the temperature cycles slightly above and below the set point rather than holding perfectly flat. For heat mats and cords under a hide that is fine. If you want a tighter hold or you are running a light-emitting basking lamp, step up to a pulse or dimming stat instead.
Suits
- Heat mats, heat cords and ceramic heat emitters up to 600W.
- Single-enclosure setups and anyone adding a first thermostat to an unregulated heater.
Setting up
Put the probe at the animal's level in the warm zone. Nothing that produces heat in a reptile enclosure should run unregulated - a mat with no stat can reach temperatures that burn through belly scales before the animal moves off it.
