A hollow ball you load with dry treats or a portion of kibble. The cat bats it, treats fall out one or two at a time, and a bowl of food that took thirty seconds now takes ten minutes.
This is the cheapest way to give an indoor cat something to do, and the most useful for a cat carrying extra weight - the food is the same, the effort is not.
Start with the treats falling out easily. A cat that works at it for two minutes and gets nothing will walk away and not come back to it.
