A starter crumble for chicks. The crumb size is the whole reason a separate product exists - a day-old chick cannot manage a layer pellet, and whole grain is worse. Crumbles give young birds something they can actually pick up and swallow.
Feed it from hatch and move to a grower feed as the birds develop, then to a layer ration at point of lay. Do not keep chicks on layer feed and do not put laying hens on chick crumbles: the calcium levels are set for different stages, and getting it the wrong way round causes real problems in both directions.
Feeding
- Available at all times in a chick feeder, with clean water alongside.
- Keep it dry - damp crumbles spoil quickly and go mouldy in a warm brooder.
- Add insoluble grit once birds start on anything other than crumbles.
