Natural mixed brown gravel, unpainted, in 5kg and 10kg bags. The mixed tones read as riverbed rather than as decoration, which is what most people want under planted or community tanks — and it shows detritus less than pale substrate does.
As a rule of thumb, allow about 1kg per 4 litres of tank volume for a 4-5cm bed. A 60-litre tank takes roughly 15kg; go deeper if you are planting, shallower if you are not.
Because the stone is natural and uncoated, there is no paint or dye to chip off into the water over time — the usual failure mode of coloured gravel. Rinse it thoroughly before it goes in regardless: bagged gravel always carries stone dust, and skipping the rinse means a cloudy tank for days.
Features
- Two bag sizes — 5kg and 10kg
- Natural mixed brown — unpainted stone, no dye to leach or flake
- Inert — will not buffer your water hardness or pH up
- Rounded grain — safe for bottom-dwellers that sift substrate
Care
Rinse in batches under running water until it runs clear before adding it to the tank. Vacuum it during water changes to lift the waste that settles between the stones.
