Activiron Paste is an oral iron supplement for horses that carries its iron as ferric sodium EDTA rather than an elemental iron salt. Value Plus states the chelated form absorbs better out of a grain-based diet and causes fewer gastrointestinal upsets. Each 20mL dose supplies 400mg of iron.
It earns its place with a horse in hard work, one recovering from illness or blood loss, or one a blood count has shown to be low. It is not a daily additive for a horse in light work on good pasture — horses store excess iron rather than excreting it, so check with your vet before running it long term.
Two sizes: the 60mL tube covers a single horse or a short course, the 900mL tub suits a stable dosing several.
