A machine cleaner that runs through an empty hot cycle to clear out the residue that builds up in the drum, door seal and pipework. Machines that regularly wash pet bedding pick up hair and grease faster than ones that only wash clothes, and that is what starts the musty smell.
Run it on the hottest cycle with nothing in the drum. If the machine already smells, expect to run it more than once before the smell goes for good.
