Wombaroo Alpaca Milk Replacer is a milk substitute for alpaca and llama cria — orphans, and cria whose dam is not producing enough. It is formulated to match the composition of alpaca milk rather than adapted from a calf or lamb product, analysing at 35% protein, 20% fat and 19 MJ/kg. Protein is set high because cria grow quickly and Wombaroo formulates to allow early weaning, while the essential amino acid, vitamin and mineral balance is aimed at healthy fleece growth as well as bodyweight. Unlike the low-lactose marsupial powders in this range it contains lactose, in line with alpaca milk. Making up is simple at farm scale: 170g of powder to 850 millilitres of warm water gives a litre. No pack size is orderable on this listing at PeekAPaw right now. If a cria is weak or has missed feeds, involve your vet rather than waiting.

Making Up Milk
To make 1 litre of milk: Mix 170 g of powder with 850 mL of warm water.
Add half the water first and mix to a paste. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly. Pre-boil the water to ensure it is sterilised. If the water is too hot, it can cause the milk to curdle. If it is too cold, it will be difficult to disperse the powder. An electric whisk can be used for mixing.
Milk can be stored in the fridge for up to a day or frozen for up to 2 weeks. Once thawed, discard any unused milk and wash feeding utensils thoroughly.
