Wombaroo Impact is a colostrum supplement for newborn mammals and marsupial joeys, and timing is what it turns on. It should be fed as soon as possible after birth and preferably before any milk: absorption continues for several days in some species, but it is most effective in the first 12 hours, and Wombaroo's directions are explicit that milk is not fed during that first window and that Impact is never mixed with milk. A newborn that missed maternal colostrum should have at least two doses inside 48 hours. Alongside bovine colostrum powder at 80g/kg immunoglobulin it carries lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase and mannan oligosaccharides. PeekAPaw stocks the 25g. If a newborn is already unwell, involve a vet rather than relying on a supplement.

Directions for Newborns

Includes cats, dogs, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, horses, alpacas, cows, sheep, pigs, deer, zoo animals and eutherian wildlife (e.g. flying foxes and microbats).

Impact should be fed as soon as possible after birth, and preferably before milk is fed. It may be absorbed for several days after birth, depending on the species, but is most effective in the first 12 hours. Newborns that have not received maternal colostrum should receive at least 2 doses of Impact within 48 hours of birth.

First 12 hours after birth: feed an Impact dose as described on the pack. If required, this may be divided over several feeds, spaced 2–3 hours apart. Do not feed milk during this time.

12+ hours after birth: commence feeding milk. Feed a second Impact dose, ensuring at least 2 hours between milk feeds and Impact feeds. Do not mix or feed Impact with milk.
