Diapers and male wraps
These are for a specific set of situations: a bitch in season, an incontinent older dog, a dog recovering from surgery, or a male dog that marks indoors (which is what a male wrap, a band around the abdomen rather than a full diaper, is for). They are a management tool, not a substitute for house training a puppy.
Change them often. Skin held against damp fabric scalds, and a dog left in a wet diaper develops sores quickly. Any dog that has suddenly become incontinent should see a vet before it is put in a diaper — urinary infection, bladder stones, kidney disease and neurological problems all present this way.
Cleaning up properly
The clean-up range is where most of the practical value sits, and technique matters more than the bottle. Blot, never rub — rubbing drives urine into carpet backing and underlay. Soak the area rather than misting it, because the cleaner has to reach as far as the urine did. Leave the full contact time on the label before blotting dry.
Two things people get wrong. Never use an ammonia-based household cleaner on a pet accident — ammonia is part of what the animal smells in its own urine, and it invites a repeat in the same spot. And find the whole problem before you start: old urine fluoresces under a UV torch in a dark room, and the affected area is routinely several times larger than the patch being treated.
The litter box deodoriser treats the tray at a change, working on the residue in the plastic. It helps at the margin; daily scooping, a full litter change on a schedule, and one tray per cat plus one do far more.
