CatMate is a system rather than a single product: the sifting trays, the pellet litter and the accessories are built to work together, which is why the tray sets are sold alongside the litter.
How it works: pellets that have absorbed urine break apart, and a shake of the top sieve tray drops those particles through to the base while clean pellets stay on the surface. You empty the base instead of the whole tray, which is what makes a bag last longer. The 3-piece set is a sieve tray, a base tray and a scoop; the 5-piece kit adds a second base for rotation cleaning and a 2kg bag of CatMate litter to start you off.
On the litter itself, the plantation pine pellets contain natural oils that inhibit the bacteria behind ammonia smell, and the hardwood pellets are made to break down more slowly again. Natural Tofu is the outlier — a lightweight clumping litter of soybean pea fibre and corn starch, gentler underfoot for cats that dislike the feel of pellets. The wood pellet and hardwood bags are pickup only. The anti-scatter mat and the citrus and lavender tray deodoriser deal with what the tray itself cannot.
