This dog clothing and accessories collection holds coats and jackets for cold and shoulder-season walking, and bandanas that fit cats as well as dogs. The outerwear comes from Scruffs and All for Paws, and the bandanas from Max & Molly, All for Paws and PURROOM.
Getting the fit right
Dog coats are sized by back length rather than by weight, and that is where most sizing mistakes come from. Measure from the base of the neck, where a collar sits, to the base of the tail, with the dog standing square instead of sitting. Then take the girth around the deepest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. If a dog falls between two sizes, deep-chested breeds usually need the larger one, while long-backed narrow dogs are better going by back length and accepting a slightly loose chest. A coat should clear the front legs so the dog can stride out properly, and it should not creep forward into the throat when the head goes down to sniff. Check the size chart on each product page rather than carrying a size across, because Scruffs and All for Paws do not use the same size steps.
Coats, jackets and bandanas
The Scruffs coats here come in four designs, Calamity Jane, Jesse James, Magenta Purple and High Risk Red, so there is a choice of colour as well as pattern; a bright or high-contrast coat is easier to keep sight of at dusk. The All for Paws Outdoor All Season Jacket is the lighter option, aimed at year-round walking rather than deep winter. On the accessories side, the Max & Molly Bandana is made for cats and dogs, the PURROOM Chick bandana is a small novelty style, and the All for Paws Smart Guard Insect Repellent Bandana sits at the neck. A bandana should be loose enough to slide two fingers underneath, and is best taken off when the animal is unsupervised or crated, since loose fabric and collars can catch.
