Drontal is an intestinal allwormer, and the Drontal range at PeekAPaw covers three forms: chewables and tablets for dogs, coated tablets for cats and kittens, and a liquid suspension for puppies. The dog products are labelled for roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm including hydatid tapeworm; the cat tablets for roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm.
Two things decide which pack you need. The first is the weight band printed on the product: Drontal is sized by the animal, so "Small Dogs 3kg", "Medium Dogs 10kg" and "Large Dogs 35kg" describe the dog rather than the pack. Follow the label or your vet on how much to give. The second is the form. The chewables suit dogs that spit tablets out, the cat tablets are smooth and round so they are easier to swallow, and the puppy suspension is a liquid for puppies from two weeks of age.
Drontal's own guidance is to worm every three months, or at the start of each season, rather than monthly, and more often in areas where hydatid tapeworm occurs. It is an intestinal wormer only — Drontal's labelling suggests pairing it with a separate tick and flea product.
