Fido's is an Australian range made by Mavlab, and it covers the grooming and first-aid side of pet care rather than food: soap-free shampoos and conditioners, coat sprays, pyrethrin flea washes, an oral wormer, and a few consumables aimed at grooming salons and veterinary clinics. Most items are labelled for dogs and cats together, the Bunny Bath shampoo is for rabbits and guinea pigs, and the Fre-Itch Rinse Concentrate extends to cage birds and rodents.
Which shampoo
Everyday Moisturising Shampoo is the hypoallergenic one, and the sensible default for a pet with reactive skin, since most of the others carry added fragrance and colour. Oatmeal Shampoo and the 2.5% Oatmeal Conditioner pair up for dry, itchy coats; Tea Tree Oil and the Gentle and Mild with baking soda are the ones aimed at a coat that smells. White and Bright uses optical brighteners for white and light coats, Black Gloss uses colour enhancers for dark ones. Oodle Shampoo is formulated for curly oodle coats, and Fluff-Buster is a concentrate that releases a heavy shedder's undercoat. Because the range is soap-free, it can be used alongside long-term flea control products.
A flea wash is not a flea treatment
Fido's Flea Shampoo and Pyrethrin Shampoo are pyrethrin washes: they deal with the fleas and lice in the coat at bath time and nothing after that. Read the Pyrethrin Shampoo label before you buy, because it states it does not control paralysis tick and is not for puppies or kittens. Fre-Itch Rinse Concentrate is the one whose label covers paralysis tick; it is diluted 1:100 and left in rather than rinsed off. Closasole is the oral wormer, and it covers roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm but not hydatid tapeworm, and does not control heartworm. If you are not sure what your pet has, ask your vet rather than working it out from the shelf.
